The Optoma GT1080Darbee is a well positioned home projector that will have broad appeal.  In particular it is often cited as a good option for gamers. A 1080 HD 60hz projector with low input lag makes this a good choice for playing games, just hook up your XBox or PC via the HDMI ports and you’re good to go.

It also helps that this model has a short throw, position it 4ft away from a wall and you can have yourself a 120″ of gaming goodness.  This is ideal for casual gamers who are more interested in some big screen fun with their buddies before returning the projector to a cupboard.  No hassle of mounting to the ceiling or finding a room large enough.

Functionality

The Optoma GT1080 Darbee is good in a tight space, you can have a 100″ display up and running from just a distance of one meter away from your screen/wall.

Connecting up your new projector to a source is easy enough, it has 2 x HDMI and MHL ports built into the back.  It also has built-in 16 W speakers, these will never compete with a decent sound system but they are useful if you are plugging in a PlayStation for a quick game or two and don’t want the hassle of setting up additional speakers.

Image Quality

With a 3000 lumen brightness rating the Optima is capable of giving good clear images even with some ambient light in the room.  Projector images will always look better in the dark but a good bright bulb can still give great results in a lighter room.

It also has Rec.709 coverage, the international HDTV standard to guarantee accurate reproduction of cinematic colours. The projector’s low latency and crisp 1080p resolution make this a good option for PC gaming.

We give the Optoma GT1080Darbee a 4.5 out of 5 rating. Want to know what existing owners of this projector think? You can read real user reviews here.

Yes, this model has a good reputation for decent 3D. It offers two 3D systems DLP Link and Vesa. The easiest setup is to get hold of DLP Link Active glasses which don’t have to cost a lot. Vesa can give better results but you have to buy an emitter and the glasses to go with it. How good it looks will depend on what you are playing but you can get very good results with a 3D blu ray player.
