The Viewsonic M1 is a lightweight projector aimed at those looking for a portable device that they can move around from room to room.  A built in battery ensures that you don’t even need to be near a power point making it suitable for indoor and outdoor use.

The M1 is targeted at buyers looking to have a big screen on the move, on the side of the house or at a camp site and this portable wonder beats carrying around your television set!

Functionality

The Viewsonic M1 hits the target when it comes to a neat compact and portable design.  They’ve made something that is easy to move and the handle conveniently doubles up as a stand.

There are a few control buttons on it but in reality you’ll be sending commands to the projector with the included remote control.  Unfortunately this can be frustrating if you opt for a short throw setup as the receiver is on the front of the M1.  The remote works best when the projector is behind you!

Connectivity is good with USB A and C, HDMI and an SD card reader.  You can even store films on the 16gb of internal memory if needed.

Viewsonic claim the battery is good for six hours which is more than enough for a movie or sports match, the bulb is good for 30,000 hours which means it will last years.

Image Quality

The M1 has a native resolution of 854 x 480, so whilst it can disply HD or DVD quality images these will be scaled accordingly.  This is going to have a knock on effect on image quality but owners report back an acceptable enough viewing experience.

The 120,000:1 contrast ratio and a 250 lumen output puts this model ahead of the cheap imports but you can get better if you are prepared to spend more.  The projector doesn’t look it’s best in brighter conditions, but in a suitably darkened room the pictures are vivid and rich with brilliant colours. The lack of detail is noticeable but this is to be expected on a lower resolution model.

Image quality is at the right point for the asking price but just be aware that spending more will up the qaulity.

We give the ViewSonic M1 a 4 out of 5 rating. Want to know what existing owners of this projector think? You can read real user reviews here.

Should I buy the ViewSonic M1?

The Viewsonic M1 offers a punchy image in a compact well designed package and a good selection of ports.  Its well priced for its target market and has a good battery life.  On the downside, it doesn't work so well in bright environments. If you are having some doubts about this purchase then why not read some real owner reviews and see what other buyers think.

Anyone buying this should be aware that this is not a full HD projector.

Correct, as mentioned in the review, the resolution is 854 x 480. Full HD, or higher, resolution projectors are going to be more expensive so if your budget allows it is reasonable to spend more if you want. That said, 854 x 480 can still give good images.
