The YG300 is a tiny cheap portable projector that promises a lot.  You’ll see it for sale on a number of sites and sometimes under different brands too, search for it in amazon and you’ll see different sellers offering the same little yellow box for a range of prices.

Let’s cut to the chase, there are better projectors out there.  Unless you get this at a dirt cheap price then it’s hard to recommend.

Functionality

Let’s start with the positive, it’s small and portable.  You’ll have no trouble carrying this around with you on a trip.   With its low cost you won’t be upset if it gets lost or damaged.

It has the connectivity you’d hope for with  HD/USB/AV/SD slots available.  But at this price there are no smart features or associated app to broadcast from.  The built in speakers are useful.

It’s made out of metal and plastic, it should survive a trip or too but my expectation wouldn’t be too high personally.  The colour won’t be to everyone’s taste but I suppose you won’t lose it in the dark!

Image Quality

You’ll see sellers of this mention 1080 and HD in their descriptions but if you look at the small print you’ll see that the actual image resolution is a mere  320*240.  This is not a lot.  It’s OK for a cheap throwaway projector that you are bringing with you on a trip and don’t mind it getting damaged.  But you’re not going to be building a home cinema system out of this.

It looks good up to 32″ or so but you might find it getting a bit too blurry after that.  It can’t compete with more fancy models

We give the YG300 a 3 out of 5 rating. Want to know what existing owners of this projector think? You can read real user reviews here.

Should I buy the YG300?

A low quality cheap projector that would be a good choice for slinging in a bag and taking somewhere but you are better off spending more for a home cinema system. If you are having some doubts about this purchase then why not read some real owner reviews and see what other buyers think.

Your Questions Answered

I've seen projectors that look a bit like this, is it the same model?

Probably, this projector keeps cropping up under different names, presumably it is being sold by a factory somewhere and rebranded.

Can this take batteries?

Nope. You’ll need a power source.
